More than 650 million women living today were married before their 18th birthday. Why and where does child marriage happen? How old are the children involved in child marriage – and is it only girls involved? Is it legal and how is the connection to pregnancy, education and several other important aspects? Last and not least – how can the world, UNFPA and Zonta help ending child marriage?
Zonta Copenhagen Multicultural has invited Pernille Fenger to give a presentation of child marriages. Pernille Fenger is Chief of the UNFPA Nordic Office located in the UN City in Copenhagen (United Nations Population Fund: www.unfpa.org / un.dk/un-in-denmark/unfpa).
Zonta International has committed US$2,000,000 to UNICEF USA in the biennium 2018-2020 to support the UNICEF/UNFPA Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage in 12 countries (https://foundation.zonta.org/EndingChildMarriage). The Danish Zonta clubs have decided to help Zonta International Ending Child Marriage by sending some of the funds from their service project during 2019, eg. from ’Banko og Bobler’.
Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting
The Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting was called in mail as of 21 May 2019 by the Club President. The Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting is 17:30-18:00 and the agenda is:
– Discussion and approval of the amendments to the club bylaws
– Others.
