Meet Gerd Grubb, a true pioneer in women’s equality, at the Multicultural October Club Meeting!

Gerd Grubb will tell us about her life and work as a woman, researcher and teacher in a male world. Gerd Grubb has worked in the math area throughout her life and was the first women professor in mathematics at University of Copenhagen.

Gerd Grubb will in her presentation tell us how she started her career and how she managed it all the way to being appointed as the first woman math professor at University of Copenhagen? Positive experiences and troubles during the years? How are the steps in the development towards the fact that there are now more women in mathematics – but that women and men are still not equally represented in the science area?

Gerd Grubb has a math education from Denmark and USA, was the first woman in Denmark to write a doctoral dissertation in mathematics and was appointed professor in 1994 at University of Copenhagen. Gerd Grubb has received a number of awards and honorary titles – latest in 2020, the gold medal from the Royal Academy of Sciences and Letters for a lifelong effort for Danish science (https://www.math.ku.dk/english/about/news/the-academys-gold-medal-to-gerd-grubb).
